The Deputy Director: Health and Safety (Post Level 6) at the University of the Free State (UFS) is a senior management position responsible for leading and overseeing Occupational health and safety across all UFS campuses. Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage Health and Safety (OHS) across all UFS campuses.
- Develop and implement OHS strategies, policies, and compliance frameworks.
- Conduct regular Occupational health and safety training for staff and students.
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations.
- Oversee risk assessments, laboratory safety, fire safety, emergency response, and disaster management.

Qualifications:

Skills Required for Occupational Health and Safety:
- Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Health and Safety, Safety Management, Environmental Health, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Registration with a recognised Health and Safety professional body.
- SAMTRAC or an equivalent recognised OHS qualification.
- Valid Code B driver’s licence.
- At least 5 years’ management experience and 5 years’ relevant Health and Safety experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), compliance audits, emergency management, fire safety, and contractor compliance.
- Familiarity with Occupational health and safety software and tools.
