The University of the Free State (UFS) is seeking a qualified and motivated Lecturer in Life Sciences and Natural Sciences Education for a permanent position at its Qwaqwa Campus. The role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules, supervising students, participating in teaching practice programmes, conducting research, and contributing to curriculum development and faculty administration. Applicants must hold a relevant Master’s or PhD in Education, with specialization in Life or Natural Sciences teaching, and have school or higher education experience.

Responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Life Sciences, Natural Sciences Education, and General Education

Supervise and consult with undergraduate and postgraduate students

Participate in Work Integrated Learning (Teaching Practice)

Engage actively in research and publish in relevant journals

Contribute to curriculum development and faculty administration

Collaborate with faculty colleagues in academic and leadership tasks
Qualifications:

PhD in Education with a focus on Teaching of Natural Sciences/Life Sciences in schools (for permanent appointment), or
-
Master’s degree in Education with the same focus and proof of registration for a PhD (contract appointment, 5 years)

Formal teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed. or Diploma in Education) with Life Sciences as a major subject

Minimum 5 years’ relevant school experience or 2 years in higher education or research

Experience in academic presentations and publication-ready manuscripts
