Purpose of the Role
The Lecturer in Education Law will contribute to teaching, research, curriculum development, postgraduate supervision, and community engagement within the Faculty of Education. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing future educators while advancing scholarship in Education Law.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in:
- Education Law
- Education Management and Leadership
- Teacher Education
- Participate in the Faculty’s Work Integrated Learning (Teaching Practice) programme.
- Facilitate student consultations and academic support sessions.
Research and Scholarship
- Conduct research in Education Law and related fields.
- Publish research outputs in accredited national and international journals.
- Present research findings at conferences and academic events.
- Contribute to the faculty’s research agenda and scholarly activities.
Curriculum Development
- Develop and review curricula in Education Law.
- Contribute to programme enhancement and innovation.
Postgraduate Supervision
- Supervise and mentor postgraduate students.
- Guide students through research projects and dissertations.
Administration and Leadership
- Participate in departmental and faculty committees.
- Contribute to academic administration and leadership activities.
- Collaborate with colleagues on teaching, research, and service initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Permanent Appointment
- PhD (NQF Level 10) in Education with a focus on Education Law.
OR Contract Appointment (Five Years)
- Master’s Degree (NQF Level 9) in Education with a focus on Education Law.
- Must obtain a PhD in Education Law within five years for conversion to a permanent appointment.
Additional Mandatory Requirements
- Proof of registration for a doctoral degree focused on Education Law.
- Abstract of thesis/dissertation demonstrating relevance to Education Law.
- Formal teaching qualification such as:
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), or
- Advanced Diploma in Education, or equivalent.
- Minimum:
- Five years’ experience in a school environment, OR
- Two years’ experience in higher education, research, or development environments.
- Experience and/or training in:
- Basic Statistics
- Quantitative Research Methodologies
- Experience presenting posters or papers at conferences.
- Evidence of manuscripts with publication potential.
Recommended Qualifications and Experience
- Publications in accredited Q1–Q4 journals.
- Experience supervising postgraduate students.
- Established research profile in Education Law.
