    Lecturer: Civil Engineering

    To develop academic materials, lecture in allocated subjects (primarily in Water Engineering: Hydraulics and Hydrology), conduct research, and contribute to community engagement projects within the Civil Engineering department.

    Core Responsibilities

    1. Teaching & Assessment – Delivering modules in Water Engineering (Hydraulics & Hydrology)

    2. Research – Conduct academic research and contribute to scholarly outputs

    3. Community Engagement – Involvement in consulting, professional activities, or related service

    4. Student Evaluation – Monitor and support student performance

    5. Leadership & Admin – Participate in departmental and faculty activities

    6. Organisational Control – Manage subject-related duties and module preparation

    Subject Field(s):

    Minimum Qualifications & Experience (Either Pathway)

    Pathway A:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (NQF 8)

    • PrEng or PrTechEng registration with ECSA

    • Progress towards a Master’s degree

    • 3+ years teaching or industry experience

    OR Pathway B:

    • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (NQF 9)

    • Candidate Engineer/Technologist, with proof of ECSA registration application under final review

    • 2+ years teaching or industry experience

    Required Technical Expertise

    Hydraulics Proficiency:

    • Mass flow, energy, and momentum applications

    • Pipe flow, open-channel hydraulics

    • Water & wastewater treatment systems

    • Hydraulic structures (weirs, bridges, culverts)

    • Software: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, EPANET, Civil Designer, Aqua Hydraulics

    Hydrology Proficiency (Optional Add-on):

    • Surface & engineering hydrology, hydrological modelling

    • Topographical and flood surveying

    • Calibration of gauging structures

    • Flood risk analysis

    • Software: ArcGIS, QGIS, SWAT, WRSM, WRYM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS

    Preferred (Desired) Qualifications & Experience
