    Job Description

    The Stock Manager is responsible for leading and managing all inventory control and stock management activities within the operation. The role ensures stock accuracy, stock availability, inventory integrity, and efficient stock flow throughout the supply chain while supporting business objectives and customer service standards.

    The successful candidate will oversee stock management processes, lead the stock control team, drive continuous improvement initiatives, reduce inventory-related losses, and ensure compliance with company procedures and operational standards.

    Purpose of the Role

    To ensure effective inventory management by:

    • Maintaining accurate stock records.
    • Optimising stock availability and stock turnover.
    • Minimising stock variances and inventory losses.
    • Managing aged, dead, and slow-moving stock.
    • Leading and developing a high-performing stock team.
    • Supporting operational efficiency and customer service delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

    Inventory Management

    • Develop and implement inventory control strategies.
    • Monitor stock levels and stock turnover rates.
    • Ensure stock availability while preventing overstocking and stock shortages.
    • Maintain accurate inventory records.
    • Support procurement and replenishment processes.
    • Ensure stock is available for on-time and in-full customer deliveries.

    Stock Accuracy and Reconciliation

    • Oversee reconciliation of stock movements between:
      • Warehouses
      • Distribution centres
      • Retail outlets
      • Customer deliveries
    • Investigate stock discrepancies and variances.
    • Identify root causes of inventory issues.
    • Implement corrective and preventative actions.
    • Ensure inventory integrity across all stock locations.

    Dead, Slow-Moving and Aged Stock Management

    • Identify and manage:
      • Dead stock
      • Slow-moving stock
      • Aged stock
    • Work with relevant departments to:
      • Discount excess inventory.
      • Reallocate stock.
      • Dispose of obsolete products.
    • Reduce stock holding costs and minimise losses.

    Operational Stock Management

    • Oversee stock counts and inventory audits.
    • Ensure compliance with inventory control procedures.
    • Monitor stock handling practices and warehouse controls.
    • Manage security measures, including camera monitoring processes.
    • Reconcile and manage CHEP pallet transactions.
    • Ensure compliance with visual performance management standards.

    Leadership and Team Management

    • Lead and manage the stock control team.
    • Conduct daily team meetings.
    • Monitor employee performance and productivity.
    • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training.
    • Conduct performance reviews.
    • Develop succession and staff development plans.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

    Continuous Improvement

    • Identify inefficiencies and operational bottlenecks.
    • Analyse inventory and operational data.
    • Implement process improvement initiatives.
    • Improve stock control systems and procedures.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve supply chain performance.

    Reporting and Analysis

    • Prepare management reports on:
      • Stock performance
      • Inventory levels
      • Stock variances
      • KPI performance
      • Operational trends
    • Present findings and recommendations to management.
    • Support data-driven decision-making.

    Compliance and Safety

    • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
    • Promote workplace safety standards.
    • Enforce PPE requirements and safe working practices.
    • Maintain a safe and productive work environment.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.

    Experience

    • 3–5 years’ experience in:
      • Stock Control
      • Inventory Management
      • Warehouse Operations
      • Logistics Management
    • FMCG retail or distribution experience is highly advantageous.
    • Supervisory or management experience is preferred.
