    Job Purpose

    The Security Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating all security operations within the hospital environment. The role focuses on safeguarding patients, staff, visitors, facilities, equipment, and information through effective access control, patrol management, incident reporting, security monitoring, and supervision of security personnel.

    The successful candidate will ensure compliance with security legislation, departmental policies, hospital security procedures, and Public Service regulations while maintaining a safe and secure environment.

    Minimum Requirements

    Educational Qualifications

    • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
    • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in:
      • Security Management, or
      • Security Risk Management, or
      • Equivalent qualification.

    Professional Registration

    • Valid registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).

    Experience

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a security management environment as a Security Officer Supervisor or similar supervisory security role.

    Additional Requirements

    • Valid driver’s licence.
    • Physically fit.
    • Willingness to work extended hours.
    • Availability for emergency call-outs and 24-hour operational requirements.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Access Control Management

    • Manage and monitor access control at hospital buildings and premises.
    • Determine visitor requirements and direct visitors appropriately.
    • Verify admission control registers for completeness and accuracy.
    • Issue visitor admission cards and access documentation.
    • Ensure visitors are escorted to relevant departments or personnel when required.
    • Prevent unauthorized individuals from entering restricted areas.
    • Ensure dangerous or prohibited items do not enter hospital premises.
    • Report security breaches and monitor corrective actions.

    2. Patrol and Premises Security Management

    • Supervise security patrols throughout the facility.
    • Ensure buildings and entrances are locked and unlocked according to schedules.
    • Inspect premises for:
      • Water leaks
      • Unsecured taps
      • Fire hazards
      • Exposed electrical installations
      • Safety risks
    • Ensure lights are switched on and off appropriately.
    • Investigate and report suspicious objects, packages, and activities.
    • Monitor and enforce emergency procedures and security protocols.

    3. Asset and Information Protection

    • Ensure the safeguarding of departmental equipment, stores, and documentation.
    • Monitor movement of assets leaving hospital premises.
    • Verify completeness of movement control registers.
    • Investigate and analyse reports relating to missing or stolen assets.
    • Ensure secure handling of classified and sensitive documents.
    • Maintain compliance with departmental security policies.

    4. Security Records and Reporting

    • Maintain occurrence books and security registers.
    • Verify the accuracy and completeness of recorded incidents.
    • Review weekly and monthly security reports.
    • Maintain secure record-keeping systems.
    • Compile incident and management reports.
    • Provide security statistics and operational reports to management.

    5. Emergency and Incident Management

    • Monitor implementation of emergency response procedures.
    • Coordinate responses to security incidents.
    • Ensure proper reporting and investigation of incidents.
    • Participate in risk mitigation and emergency preparedness activities.
    • Support disaster management and evacuation procedures when required.

    6. Procurement and Contract Administration

    • Facilitate procurement processes for security-related services.
    • Verify the accuracy of:
      • Work orders
      • Time sheets
      • Service invoices
    • Monitor service provider performance.
    • Ensure contractual compliance relating to security services.

    7. Personnel Management

    • Supervise security officers and security personnel.
    • Manage leave administration and overtime schedules.
    • Monitor attendance and duty rosters.
    • Maintain discipline within the security team.
    • Ensure security personnel wear prescribed uniforms at all times.
    • Provide guidance, support, and performance management to staff.
