Job Overview / Description: Accountant (Bothaville)
The Accountant is responsible for managing the full spectrum of accounting functions within the agricultural and manufacturing environment, ensuring accurate financial reporting and effective control over financial processes. The role involves daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations, managing bank accounts, debtors and creditors control, and supporting cash flow and management reporting activities.
This position plays a critical role in preparing management accounts, performing cost and variance analyses, and supporting month-end and year-end accounting processes, including VAT reconciliations and audit schedules. The Accountant also contributes to production cost accounting, inventory management, and operational administration, ensuring that financial information is accurate and delivered within strict deadlines.
The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, advanced proficiency in Fincon and Excel, and the ability to work independently. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and strong organisational capabilities to support the finance team in driving financial performance and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Daily, Weekly & Monthly Tasks
Perform financial reconciliations and reporting on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
Manage company bank accounts and process payments
Follow up on outstanding debtors and perform credit control
Reconcile creditors’ accounts and manage supplier payments
Prepare and submit deposit confirmations
Maintain and update cash flow schedules
Reporting & Analysis
Compile management reports, including sales and purchasing reports
Prepare debtors and creditors reconciliations, bank reconciliations
Update asset register and inventory/consignment stock reports
Prepare monthly management accounts and assist with financial reviews
Perform cost and variance analyses as required
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Month-End & Year-End Duties
Process depreciation, interest, and expense journals
Reconcile inventory, WIP, and production orders; close and cost production batches
Update and review price lists on Fincon and Excel
Prepare VAT reconciliations and assist with audit schedules
Compile and review annual financial schedules and statements
Operational & Administrative Functions
Maintain production and stock control lists
Process petty cash, travel claims, and ad hoc expenses
Assist with quotations and Service Request Voucher (SRV) processing
Handle internal and external stakeholder queries
Ensure accounting emails and queries are attended to promptly
Minimum Requirements
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3–5 years’ experience in a similar accounting role
Proficiency in Fincon and Excel (advanced level advantageous)
Strong understanding of reconciliations, cost accounting, and management reporting
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
