Job Description
The Shop Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the retail depot by assisting customers, receiving and handling stock, maintaining merchandise displays, and ensuring a clean, organized, and safe working environment. The role contributes to excellent customer service, accurate stock management, and efficient store operations while upholding company values and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Assist customers with product enquiries and provide relevant product information.
- Help customers load purchased products safely and efficiently.
- Ensure customers receive professional and friendly service.
- Promote a positive shopping experience and customer satisfaction.
Stock Handling and Merchandising
- Receive incoming stock and verify quantities where required.
- Move, unpack, and pack stock accurately and safely.
- Ensure stock is correctly displayed and merchandised according to company standards.
- Replenish shelves and displays to maintain product availability.
- Monitor stock presentation and report shortages or damages.
Store Maintenance and Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness and order throughout the depot and retail floor.
- Ensure work areas, shelves, and storage spaces remain neat and organized.
- Participate in daily housekeeping activities.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and hazard-free environment.
Operational Support
- Support general depot and retail operational activities.
- Assist colleagues and supervisors with day-to-day tasks.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Uphold workplace health and safety requirements.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all health and safety regulations.
- Ensure safe handling of stock and equipment.
- Maintain awareness of workplace risks and report safety concerns.
- Contribute to a safe and productive working environment.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric) or NQF Level 4 qualification.
Experience
- Previous experience in a retail, warehouse, depot, or customer service environment will be advantageous.
- Experience working with stock handling and merchandising will be beneficial.
Additional Requirements
- Clear criminal record.
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks.
- Willingness to work weekends and public holidays according to the duty roster.
- Knowledge of Johnson’s Clothing products will be advantageous.
