Job Description
The Production Supervisor will be responsible for planning, organising and overseeing production processes within AVBOB’s Manufacturing Division. The role involves supervising production teams, managing materials and stock, ensuring quality and safety compliance, monitoring employee performance, and ensuring that manufacturing targets and schedules are achieved efficiently and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise and oversee daily production processes.
- Implement and monitor 5S workplace practices.
- Supervise saw operators, material handlers and other production personnel.
- Ensure manufacturing activities are completed according to daily production schedules.
- Coach, mentor and train employees.
- Monitor operator performance, discipline and productivity.
- Coordinate systematic rotation of operators.
- Report machine breakdowns and ensure timely attention to equipment issues.
- Manage production materials and ensure effective stock control.
- Conduct monthly stock counts.
- Accept newly developed products and optimise production processes.
- Conduct periodic run-rate assessments.
- Ensure compliance with OSHAS/OHS requirements.
- Oversee the manufacturing of coffins and related products.
- Ensure employees are appropriately trained in production processes and machinery.
- Have knowledge of setting and operating relevant machinery, including sanding machines, NC wood lathes, band saws, scrap crushers and profile/mould wrapping machines.
- Address employee-related issues before referring matters to HR.
- Ensure production targets and deadlines are consistently met.
- Continuously assess production operators and identify areas for improvement.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 / Matric (STD 10).
- At least 5 years’ relevant experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience.
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans, both written and spoken.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Strong quality focus.
- Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical and technical abilities.
- Good teamwork skills.
- Good supervisory and management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Knowledge of funeral products will be an advantage but is not essential.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should have strong manufacturing and supervisory experience, good technical knowledge and the ability to manage production teams effectively. They should be quality-driven, analytical, hands-on and capable of maintaining production standards while ensuring employee performance, safety and stock control.
