    Job Description

    To develop academic material, lecture assigned modules within Health Sciences programmes, conduct research activities, supervise postgraduate students, provide academic leadership, and participate in community engagement initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Teaching, Learning and Assessment

    • Develop and update learning materials.
    • Present lectures in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
    • Assess and evaluate student performance.
    • Facilitate student learning and academic development.
    • Maintain high standards of teaching excellence.

    2. Research

    • Conduct and publish quality research.
    • Lead and manage research projects.
    • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
    • Secure research funding and grants.
    • Supervise postgraduate students (Master’s and Doctoral levels).

    3. Administration and Leadership

    • Participate in departmental and faculty administration.
    • Contribute to academic planning and quality assurance processes.
    • Provide academic leadership and mentorship.
    • Serve on committees and institutional structures.

    4. Community Engagement

    • Initiate and participate in community-based projects.
    • Build partnerships with professional bodies and communities.
    • Apply academic expertise to address societal needs.

    Minimum Requirements

    Associate Professor Level

    Qualifications

    • SAQA-recognised Doctoral degree (PhD, DTech, NQF Level 10 or equivalent) in:
      • Clinical Technology, or
      • A related Health Sciences qualification.

    Experience

    • Minimum 6 years of teaching/lecturing experience in a relevant subject field.

    Research Requirements

    Applicants must demonstrate:

    Publications

    • Minimum 3.0 credit units at Senior Lecturer level, or
    • 4.5 cumulative research credit units, including:
      • Accredited journal articles
      • Book chapters
      • Books
      • Peer-reviewed conference papers
      • Patents and other recognised scholarly outputs

    Postgraduate Supervision

    One of the following:

    • Three completed Master’s degrees as main supervisor, OR
    • Two completed Doctoral degrees as main supervisor at Senior Lecturer level, OR
    • Four completed Master’s degrees, OR
    • Three cumulative completed Doctoral degrees, OR
    • One completed Master’s degree as main supervisor plus at least 9.0 cumulative research credit units.

    Conference Presentations

    • Ten cumulative conference presentations/papers.
    • At least three presentations/posters at international conferences.

    Research Leadership

    • Must have led or managed at least one research project.

    Senior Lecturer Level

    Qualifications

    • Doctoral degree (PhD, DTech, NQF Level 10 or equivalent) in:
      • Clinical Technology, or
      • A related Health Sciences qualification.

    Experience

    • Minimum 4 years of teaching/lecturing experience in the relevant field.

    Research Requirements

    Publications

    • Minimum 1.5 accredited research output credits.

    Postgraduate Supervision

    Either:

    • Two completed Master’s degrees as co-supervisor, OR
    • One completed Master’s degree as supervisor.

    (This requirement may be waived if the applicant already has at least 2.0 publication/research/innovation credit outputs at Lecturer level.)

    Conference Presentations

    • Four cumulative conference presentations/papers.
    • At least one international conference presentation.

    Community Engagement

    • Participation in at least one community engagement project linked to teaching, learning, research, or innovation.

    Preferred (Advantageous) Requirements

    Applicants who possess the following will be highly competitive:

    • Recognised research profile (h-index or i10-index).
    • Active involvement in research networks and scholarly communities.
    • Experience securing local or international research grants.
    • Teaching qualification in Higher Education.

    • Relevant industry experience in Health Sciences.
