    Job Description

    The UFS Business School is seeking an experienced academic and industry professional in Human Capital Management (HCM) or Human Resource Management (HRM) for appointment at:

    • Senior Lecturer level,
    • Associate Professor level, or
    • Professor level.

    The role involves:

    • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students
    • Supervising postgraduate research
    • Conducting and publishing high-quality research
    • Developing executive education and short learning programmes
    • Participating in leadership and strategic academic activities
    • Engaging with industry and consulting projects

    The successful candidate will contribute to strengthening the Business School’s academic reputation, research output, industry engagement, and leadership in Human Capital Management.

    Main Responsibilities

    Teaching and Learning

    The successful candidate will:

    • Lecture in:
      • Human Capital Management
      • Strategic Human Resource Management
      • Talent Management
      • Organisational Behaviour
      • Labour Relations
    • Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
    • Develop high-quality teaching materials and learning resources
    • Contribute to executive education programmes and micro-credentials

    Postgraduate Supervision

    • Supervise:
      • PGDip students
      • MBA students
      • Master’s students
      • PhD students
    • Provide research mentorship and academic guidance

    Research Responsibilities

    • Conduct high-quality research in HRM/HCM
    • Publish in accredited national and international journals
    • Participate in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research
    • Present papers at scholarly conferences
    • Apply for external research funding

    For Professor level:

    • Lead high-impact research projects
    • Build international academic recognition
    • Contribute to institutional research leadership

    Programme and Industry Development

    • Develop and present short-learning programmes (SLPs)
    • Participate in curriculum enhancement
    • Engage with industry stakeholders
    • Provide consultancy services through the Business School
    • Align teaching with modern workplace trends and digital transformation

    Academic Administration

    Responsibilities include:

    • Setting and marking assessments
    • Recording student marks
    • Handling student queries and complaints
    • Participating in academic committees
    • Performing administrative duties allocated by the Director

    Community and Leadership Engagement

    • Participate in mentorship and training initiatives
    • Build partnerships with industry
    • Contribute to the strategic growth of the Business School
    • Participate in national and international academic debates

    Minimum Requirements

    Senior Lecturer Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • A PhD (NQF Level 10) in:
      • Human Resource Management,
      • Human Capital Management, or related field
    • Teaching experience at university level
    • Research publications in accredited journals
    • Experience supervising Master’s students
    • Conference presentation experience
    • Evidence of scholarly recognition
    • Industry experience as an HR practitioner
    • Potential for NRF rating

    Associate Professor Requirements

    Applicants must additionally demonstrate:

    • Experience as postgraduate external examiner
    • Editorial board experience
    • National research leadership
    • NRF rating (C3 or equivalent) or eligibility
    • Proven Master’s supervision experience
    • Strong publication record
    • Service in scholarly societies or research bodies

    Professor Requirements

    Applicants must additionally demonstrate:

    • Significant research portfolio over the last 8 years
    • International research recognition
    • Experience supervising PhD students
    • Editorial board membership of international journals
    • Keynote conference speaking experience
    • Ability to generate third-stream income/funding
    • Strong public and industry engagement
    • International academic collaboration

    Recommended Additional Skills
