    Job Description

    The Officer Safety, Health & Environment is responsible for identifying, assessing and managing risks that could result in the loss of health, life, equipment, products, the environment or financial resources within the organisation.

    The position will provide Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) support across construction sites and ensure that activities comply with applicable legislation, standards, policies and SHEQ requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Safety, Health and Environmental Management

    • Manage safety, health and environmental activities within the assigned area.
    • Identify and manage workplace SHE risks.
    • Monitor compliance with relevant safety, health and environmental legislation.
    • Support legal compliance audits and SHE management activities.
    • Promote adherence to applicable SHE standards and procedures.

    Risk Management

    • Identify potential risks that could affect employees, equipment, the environment and business operations.
    • Assess and manage identified risks.
    • Implement appropriate risk-control measures.
    • Follow up on SHE-related issues and corrective actions.

    SHE Administration and Management

    • Perform administration and management of the SHE section.
    • Maintain relevant SHE documentation and records.
    • Provide feedback and follow up on SHE matters.
    • Support effective implementation of SHE processes at various sites.

    SHEQ Compliance

    • Monitor adherence to SHEQ requirements.
    • Ensure work activities align with applicable quality, health, safety and environmental standards.
    • Assist with maintaining compliance with organisational procedures and relevant legislation.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualification

    Applicants should have:

    • National Diploma in Safety Management or Environmental Management/Health at NQF Level 5.
    • Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering time-served apprenticeship experience is preferable.
    • Valid driver’s licence.

    Experience

    • 3 years’ work experience in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering and plant equipment.
    • 3 years’ experience in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental fields, particularly in a Safety Officer capacity.

    Professional Registration

    • Professional registration with SACPCMP is required.
