Job Description
The University of the Free State is seeking a Lecturer: Language Education (Afrikaans) to contribute to teaching, research, curriculum development and student supervision within the Faculty of Education. The position focuses specifically on the teaching and learning of Afrikaans in schools.

Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Language Education and General Education.
- Participate in the faculty’s Work Integrated Learning programme and Teaching Practice.
- Actively participate in faculty research activities.
- Contribute to curriculum development in Language Education and General Education.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Provide consultation sessions to students.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the faculty.
- Contribute to faculty leadership and administrative activities.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree at NQF Level 10 in Education, focusing on the teaching or learning of Afrikaans in schools, for a permanent appointment.
OR
- Master’s degree at NQF Level 9 in Education, specialising in the teaching or learning of Afrikaans in schools, for a five-year contract appointment. During the contract period, the candidate must obtain a PhD at NQF Level 10 in the teaching of Afrikaans in schools to qualify for conversion to a permanent position.
- Proof of registration for a doctoral degree in Education, with a focus on the teaching and/or learning of Afrikaans in schools.
- Abstract of the thesis or dissertation demonstrating its relevance to Afrikaans teaching and/or learning in schools.
- Formal teaching qualification, such as a Diploma in Education, Bachelor of Education or equivalent, with Afrikaans as one of the major subjects.
- At least 5 years of relevant school-based working experience, or at least 2 years of experience in higher education or a research and development environment.
- Proven experience presenting posters or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
- Evidence of manuscripts that have the potential to be submitted for publication in accredited journals.
- Good academic record.
Recommended
- Research record with relevant publications in national or international Q1–Q4 accredited journals.
- Experience in postgraduate supervision.
