Job Purpose
The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for leading the dispensary and clinic operations to deliver safe, high-quality pharmaceutical care while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The role focuses on operational excellence, financial performance, customer service, people leadership, and achieving business objectives that support Clicks’ vision of being South Africa’s leading health and beauty retailer.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Care
- Ensure the safe, accurate, and legal dispensing of medicines.
- Provide professional pharmaceutical care and patient counselling.
- Perform generic substitution where appropriate.
- Deliver pharmaceutical services in accordance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) and South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations.
- Ensure compliance with the legal scope of practice for pharmacists.
Dispensary and Clinic Operations
- Manage the daily operations of the dispensary and clinic.
- Ensure effective stock management and inventory control.
- Minimise stock losses and shrinkage.
- Maintain housekeeping and administrative standards.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and SAPC regulations.
Financial Management
- Manage dispensary profitability and operational viability.
- Monitor budgets and operating expenses.
- Achieve dispensary and clinic sales targets.
- Analyse financial performance and implement corrective actions where required.
- Drive sustainable business growth and profitability.
People Management
- Recruit, lead, coach, mentor, and develop pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, learners, and interns.
- Build a competent, motivated, and high-performing pharmacy team.
- Conduct performance management and employee development.
- Manage staff scheduling in accordance with labour legislation and company policies.
- Ensure accurate submission of employee attendance and HR records.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and patient care.
- Promote customer loyalty and participation in the Clicks ClubCard programme.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
- Ensure customers receive appropriate healthcare advice and recommendations.
Clinic Collaboration
- Foster strong collaboration between the pharmacy, clinic, and store teams.
- Promote integrated healthcare services to meet customer needs.
- Support healthcare initiatives and wellness programmes.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with SAPC regulations, pharmacy legislation, and company policies.
- Manage risks related to medicines, stock, and pharmacy operations.
- Maintain ethical standards and professional conduct.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of medicines.
Business Development
- Drive sales and customer growth within the pharmacy.
- Promote healthcare products and services.
- Support the achievement of business objectives and shareholder value.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the pharmacy.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Registered Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience after completing Community Service.
- Minimum 1 year of people management experience.
- Registered as a Responsible Pharmacist with SAPC.
Preferred Experience
- Retail pharmacy experience.
- Experience using the Unisolve pharmacy management system.
