    Job Description

    The Officer Environmental Management is responsible for coordinating environmental activities associated with Eskom’s construction projects and ensuring that contractors comply with approved environmental requirements.

    The successful candidates will liaise with site role players on environmental matters, assess environmental compliance, manage environmental risks and monitor contractors’ adherence to Environmental Authorisations (EA), Environmental Management Programmes (EMP) and project-specific environmental specifications.

    Key Responsibilities

    Environmental Management

    • Manage environmental activities within the assigned area.
    • Liaise with relevant site role players regarding environmental matters.
    • Coordinate environmental activities associated with construction projects.
    • Monitor and enforce compliance with Environmental Authorisations (EA).
    • Ensure adherence to Environmental Management Programmes (EMP).
    • Ensure contractors comply with project-specific environmental specifications.

    Risk Management

    • Identify and manage environmental risks.
    • Assess environmental risks associated with construction activities.
    • Implement appropriate environmental controls.
    • Monitor environmental risks and follow up on corrective actions.

    Compliance Management

    • Conduct environmental compliance assessments.
    • Manage environmental compliance requirements.
    • Conduct or support legal compliance audits.
    • Monitor compliance with applicable environmental legislation, standards and project requirements.
    • Support SHEQ adherence across construction activities.

    Contractor Management

    • Evaluate contractors’ environmental management plans.
    • Review contractors’ method statements and work instructions.
    • Engage with and manage contractors regarding environmental requirements.
    • Monitor contractor performance and compliance.
    • Address environmental deviations and follow up on corrective measures.

    Reporting

    • Assist with compiling weekly environmental reports.
    • Assist with compiling monthly environmental reports.
    • Provide feedback on environmental performance and compliance matters.
    • Maintain appropriate environmental documentation and records.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualification

    Applicants must have one of the following:

    • National Diploma in Environmental Management, or
    • B Degree in Natural Sciences, or
    • B Degree in Environmental Management.

    Additional requirement:

    • Valid Code 8 (B) driver’s licence.

    Experience

    • 3 years’ experience in the Environmental Management field.

    • ISO 14001 – Environmental Management Systems.
    • ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
    • ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems.
