    Job Description

    The Lecturer for the Bachelor of Hospitality Management programme is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and academic support to students within Hospitality and Tourism-related modules.

    The role focuses on:

    • Teaching and lecturing assigned modules
    • Supporting student learning and academic performance
    • Managing assessments and academic tracking
    • Contributing to curriculum quality and programme success

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Teaching & Learning Delivery

    • Deliver lectures according to module requirements and academic schedules
    • Follow module pacers and structured teaching plans
    • Use appropriate teaching methods to enhance student understanding
    • Engage students actively during lectures

    2. Student Academic Support

    • Identify at-risk students and provide academic support
    • Monitor student attendance and participation
    • Guide students in preparation for assessments
    • Provide feedback through academic platforms

    3. Assessment & Evaluation

    • Develop and implement assessments in line with academic standards
    • Track student performance and module results
    • Analyse academic outcomes to improve teaching effectiveness
    • Report on module performance trends

    4. Academic Administration

    • Maintain and update the Learning Management System (LMS)
    • Manage academic resources and consult with the Information Centre
    • Participate in academic meetings and programme discussions
    • Support Programme Coordinators with academic tracking

    5. Quality & Academic Development

    • Contribute to continuous academic improvement initiatives
    • Participate in professional development programmes
    • Ensure teaching aligns with higher education standards
    • Support improvement of teaching and learning practices

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BTech in Hospitality Management
    • Honours or Postgraduate qualification in Hospitality or Tourism
    • Qualification must include hospitality-related subjects
    • Must be one NQF level higher than what is being taught

    Experience

    • 2–3 years lecturing or formal tutoring experience
    • 1–3 years industry experience in Hospitality or Tourism (advantageous)

    Additional Requirements

    • Academic transcript required
    • Understanding of South African higher education systems
