PH Attorneys is seeking a passionate and experienced General Legal Practitioner to join their team and contribute to the firm’s pro bono efforts.
Job Responsibilities:
As a General Legal Practitioner in the Pro Bono department, you will be expected to:
- Provide legal advice and representation across various areas of law, including litigation, debt collection, labour and employment law, family law, criminal law, and basic commercial law.
- Assist with the growth and development of the Pro Bono department, ensuring that underserved individuals receive the legal support they need.
- Manage legal caseloads effectively, ensuring all matters are handled in accordance with established deadlines.
- Communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds, offering clear and compassionate legal counsel.
- Work collaboratively with a team of legal professionals, while maintaining a high standard of legal practice and ethical responsibility.
- Conduct hearings and negotiations as required, and provide professional legal representation in courts or other relevant forums.
Qualifications & Experience:
The ideal candidate must possess:
- An LL.B degree from an accredited university.
- Admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
- 3-5 years of post-article experience as a general legal practitioner, having worked at a law firm, legal aid board, or a legal aid organization.
- Good standing with the Legal Practice Council of South Africa.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with individuals from various backgrounds.
- A high level of computer literacy, with proficiency in using videoconferencing platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, and MS Teams.
- The ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- A strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining high standards of confidentiality and work quality.
- Excellent organizational skills and an administrative ability to keep track of various legal matters.
