    The Environmental Officer: Education and Awareness will champion environmental education and capacity-building programs across the Fezile Dabi District. The officer will work with schools, higher education institutions, and communities to promote Environmental Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The role involves implementing projects, facilitating workshops, and building partnerships with both formal and informal stakeholders to encourage responsible environmental management. This is a dynamic, community-centered position requiring excellent communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

    Minimum Requirements

    • An appropriate Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management, Natural Science, or a related field (SAQA recognised).

    • Computer literacy (MS Office proficiency).

    • A valid driver’s license (willingness to travel extensively).

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Environmental Education for Sustainable Development (ESD):

      • Implement environmental education programs for formal education structures (schools, SETA, ABET, higher education, etc.).

      • Support curriculum integration of environmental education in schools and institutions.

    • Capacity Building & Community Engagement:

      • Identify, design, and implement environmental awareness and capacity-building programs for the general public and targeted stakeholders.

      • Develop and coordinate community-based natural resource management projects to promote sustainable development.

      • Initiate and monitor environmental school programs and provide ongoing technical support.

    • Awareness Programs & Stakeholder Relations:

      • Promote and implement environmental awareness campaigns in local communities.

      • Establish and maintain professional networks with stakeholders (government, NGOs, schools, and community groups).

      • Liaise with both internal and external partners to ensure effective collaboration and sectoral engagement.

    • Administration & Reporting:

      • Maintain accurate records of education and awareness activities.

      • Draft reports, monitor project outcomes, and ensure compliance with departmental objectives.

      • Perform all administrative tasks related to environmental education and awareness projects.
