    Job Overview

    Eskom is recruiting an Engineering Assistant: Lines & Servitudes to join the Southern Grid team in Bloemfontein. This permanent position is responsible for carrying out transmission line inspections, servitude maintenance, defect repairs, and restoration work to ensure the safe, reliable, and continuous supply of electricity.

    The successful candidate will work on high-voltage transmission lines, maintain associated infrastructure, and support emergency restoration activities while adhering to Eskom’s safety and operational standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    As an Engineering Assistant: Lines & Servitudes, you will:

    • Conduct power line inspections and servitude maintenance.
    • Perform hardware defect repairs on transmission lines.
    • Carry out line operating activities in accordance with approved procedures.
    • Investigate power line faults and assist in identifying technical problems.
    • Participate in emergency restoration operations following power line failures.
    • Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.
    • Operate, inspect, and maintain line tools and equipment.
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers and stakeholders.
    • Support the efficient operation and maintenance of the transmission network.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must have:

    • A Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Light Current or Heavy Current) at NQF Level 4 (120 credits).
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working on the NTCSA transmission network and Lines & Servitudes equipment.

    Required Knowledge

    Candidates should possess knowledge of:

    • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering principles.
    • Transmission line and servitude maintenance.
    • Occupational hazards and safety procedures related to line work.
    • Transmission network operations.
    • ORHVS authorisation to take handover.
    • Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
    • Hazardous substances management.
    • Line component identification.
    • Vegetation management.
    • Principles of electrical theory.
    • Level 3 Line Construction Competency Authorisation.
    • Basic line construction techniques.
    • Eskom business procedures, directives, Conditions of Service, and financial procedures.
    • Line maintenance software applications.
    • Basic rigging.
    • Operation of line maintenance tools and equipment.
