Responsibilities:

Provide academic leadership and strategic direction for the department

Facilitate high-quality, research-informed teaching and curriculum development.

Shape and influence departmental culture and staff collaboration

Represent the department in internal and external academic and administrative structures
-
Mentor academic staff, support career development, and promote research productivity
-
Oversee performance management, recruitment, and mentoring initiatives
-
Maintain a scholarship-friendly and inclusive working environment
-
Plan, manage, and monitor departmental finances and resource allocation
-
Ensure student support, quality academic advising, and engagement at all levels
-
Promote ethical, relevant, and impactful research.

Facilitate staff development and ensure compliance with UFS policies
Qualifications:
-
PhD (NQF Level 10) in Linguistics, Language Practice, or a closely related field

Permanent, full-time academic staff member in the Department of Linguistics or Language Practice
-
Appointed at the Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor level
Preferred Requirements:

Proven record of peer-reviewed publications in accredited national journals

Membership or registration with a professional body

Involvement in national or international scholarly societies or committees
