    Job Purpose

    The Lecturer will be responsible for teaching Public Administration modules, preparing students for assessments, tracking academic progress, and ensuring quality learning experiences. The role requires active engagement with students, strong academic administration, and contribution to academic quality through module analysis and professional development.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    Teaching & Learning

    • Deliver well-prepared lectures aligned with module pacers and requirements.

    • Engage students through interactive teaching that supports learning outcomes.

    • Manage academic resources and collaborate with the Information Centre.

    • Update the LMS (Learning Management System) and provide timely feedback to students.

    Assessment Support & Student Engagement

    • Prepare students for assessments in line with Central Academic Team guidelines.

    • Identify at-risk students and implement interventions to support them.

    • Monitor student engagement, attendance, and assessment submissions.

    • Escalate non-compliance or academic risks where required.

    Academic Administration & Quality Assurance

    • Assist Programme Coordinator with analysing academic results and identifying at-risk modules.

    • Participate in faculty and institutional academic meetings.

    • Review and reflect on student performance for continuous improvement.

    • Support tracking and monitoring of students within assigned modules.

    Professional Development

    • Complete mandatory academic professional development activities annually.

    • Engage in continuous learning to improve teaching practices and maintain academic standards.

    Minimum Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration (NQF Level 7).

    • Honours Degree in Public Administration or related field (NQF Level 8) is an advantage.

    Experience

    • 1–2 years lecturing experience.

    • 2–3 years relevant industry experience in public sector administration or related fields.

    Key Competencies

    • Strong understanding of the South African Higher Education regulatory environment.

    • Knowledge of teaching and learning theories and academic interventions.

    • Ability to support student success through effective academic advising.

    • Proficiency with digital academic platforms and willingness to learn new systems.

    • Adaptability in a fast-changing environment.

    • Strong administrative discipline and adherence to academic processes.

    • Deadline-driven, organised, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.

    • Excellent time management and ability to work under pressure.

    Working Hours

    Part-time role:
    Hours depend on module allocation and the institutional timetable.
