     Job Purpose

    The General Assistant ensures comprehensive customer service and supports store operations through merchandising, stock management, housekeeping, and safety compliance within their area of responsibility.

     Key Responsibilities

    Customer Service

    • Advise and assist customers on products and queries.

    • Handle and resolve customer complaints professionally.

    • Ensure a friendly and helpful approach at all times.

    Merchandising Standards

    • Merchandising bulk stock according to store layout and planograms.

    • Ensure shelves and product displays are fully stocked.

    • Apply correct shelf price labelling within area of responsibility.

    Housekeeping

    • Keep assigned areas free of obstacles.

    • Merchandised stock immediately after receiving.

    • Ensure aisles are safe and accessible for customers.

    • Complete checklists for canteen and toilet/showers schedules as required.

    Safety (OHSA) Compliance

    • Follow Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) standards.

    • Use safety gear and ensure safety for staff and customers.

    • Ensure safe racking and bulk stock handling.

    • Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager.

    Stock Loss Management

    • Report damaged or lost stock to the Store Manager.

    • Maintain accurate stock control within area of responsibility.

     Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 10 / NQF Level 3 with 1 year of related experience, OR

    • Grade 12 without prior work experience

    • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language

    • Valid South African ID or work permit

    • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately

    • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

    • Ability to work under pressure
