    Lecturer: Civil Engineering CUT Closing Date 8 Aug 2025

    The Central University of Technology (CUT) is seeking a qualified and experienced Lecturer in Civil Engineering, specializing in Water Engineering (Hydraulics and/or Hydrology), to join its Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (FEBIT). The successful candidate will be responsible for academic instruction, research, and community engagement in line with the institution’s mission to produce work-ready graduates and impactful research outcomes.

    Responsibilities:

    • Teach and assess undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules in Water Engineering (Hydraulics and Hydrology).

    • Conduct relevant research and contribute to scholarly outputs.

    • Participate in community engagement projects and industry collaboration.

    • Guide and evaluate students through academic mentoring and assessments.

    • Contribute to curriculum development and programme management.

    • Participate in departmental administration and leadership tasks.

    • Utilize and promote industry-standard software and design tools in teaching.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum Requirements (Either Option A or B):

    Option A:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (BEng, BScEng, BEngTech Hons, or equivalent, NQF Level 8)

    • Registered as PrEng or PrTechEng with ECSA

    • Evidence of progress towards a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering

    • Minimum 3 years’ relevant teaching/industry experience

    OR

    Option B:

    • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (MEng, MScEng, MTech, or equivalent, NQF Level 9)

    • Registered as a Candidate Engineer/Technologist with proof of submitted application for PrEng/PrTechEng

    • Minimum 2 years’ relevant teaching/industry experience

    Technical Knowledge and Skills:

    • Strong understanding and practical experience in either Hydraulics or Hydrology, including:

      • Design and analysis of water infrastructure (e.g., pump stations, pipelines, stormwater systems)

      • Use of engineering software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, EPANET, etc.)

      • Familiarity with South African design codes and water legislation (e.g., National Water Act, SANS1200, SANRAL Drainage Manual)

      • Hydrological data processing, flood risk analysis, and water resources management

    Desired (Advantageous):

    • Master’s degree with PrEng/PrTechEng registration

    • Doctoral studies in progress (if holding a Master’s)

    • Broad project lifecycle experience

    • Proven research output and community engagement involvement
