Job Overview

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is inviting suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Regional Head: Incarcerations, Corrections and Rehabilitation for the Free State and Northern Cape Region. This Senior Management Service (SMS) role is responsible for providing strategic leadership in the management of incarceration, correctional programmes, rehabilitation services, healthcare, and sustainable offender development within the region.

The successful candidate will ensure safe and secure correctional environments while overseeing the effective delivery of rehabilitation services, operational performance, and resource management.

The Department of Correctional Services is responsible for promoting public safety through the secure detention, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration of offenders into society. Key Responsibilities

As the Regional Head: Incarcerations, Corrections and Rehabilitation, you will:

Ensure a safe and secure environment for correctional officials, offenders, visitors, and the public.
Manage regional incarceration and correctional services.
Oversee healthcare services within correctional facilities.
Lead rehabilitation and offender development programmes.
Manage self-sufficiency and sustainability initiatives across correctional centres.
Oversee the effective utilisation of human resources, finances, and departmental assets.
Monitor organisational performance and performance information.
Ensure compliance with legislation, departmental policies, and governance requirements.
Provide strategic leadership to regional correctional operations.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

An undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 7) in:
- Behavioural Science; or
- An equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA.
A Senior Management Service (SMS) Certificate issued by the National School of Government (NSG) (required before appointment).
A minimum of 5 years’ experience at middle or senior management level.
A valid driver’s licence.
Computer literacy.
Ability to obtain the required security clearance.

Knowledge Requirements

Candidates should have sound knowledge of:

The South African Criminal Justice System.
Correctional Services operations and architecture.
The Public Service Act and Regulations.
The Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
The Correctional Services Act 111 of 1998, as amended.
Public sector governance, policy, and legislative frameworks.
