Job Description
The Staff Nurse will provide basic nursing care and assist professional nurses in delivering quality healthcare services to patients at Bongani Regional Hospital.
The successful candidates will be responsible for monitoring patients’ vital signs, maintaining patient hygiene, supporting nutritional needs, assisting with mobility and preparing patients for diagnostic and surgical procedures.
The role requires individuals who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, maintain professional and ethical nursing standards and provide compassionate patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Measure, interpret and record patients’ vital signs.
Assist professional nurses with clinical procedures, including administering intramuscular injections.
Rotate between departments and perform night duty when required.
Maintain professional growth, ethical standards and continuous self-development.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Support managers in ensuring the delivery of quality nursing care.
Demonstrate concern and compassion for patients.
Ensure that patients maintain proper personal hygiene.
Support and maintain patients’ nutritional status.
Assist patients with mobility.
Facilitate patients’ elimination processes.
Prepare patients for diagnostic and surgical procedures.
Order stock and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
Operate relevant nursing apparatus and equipment.
Contribute to the overall quality and efficiency of nursing services.
Requirements
Qualifications and Registration
Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification.
A nursing qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Staff Nurse.
Registration with SANC as an Enrolled Nurse.
Experience Requirements
Experience requirements differ according to the salary grade:
Grade 1: No experience required.
Grade 2: At least 10 years of appropriate or recognisable nursing experience after registration with SANC as a Staff Nurse.
Grade 3: At least 20 years of appropriate or recognisable nursing experience after registration with SANC as a Staff Nurse.
Knowledge and Skills
Basic communication and writing skills.
Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of nursing care standards.
Knowledge of the Nursing Act.
Knowledge of the Public Service Regulations, 2016, as amended.
Ability to work under pressure.
Computer literacy will be an added advantage.
