    Purpose of the Job

    The Mining Position at Sasol plays a vital role in ensuring that mining operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with production goals. As a Shiftboss in this Mining Position, you will lead teams to achieve set targets while adhering to the highest safety standards. You will also be responsible for fulfilling statutory duties in compliance with mining regulations and ensuring adherence to Sasol’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).

    This Mining Position requires a skilled individual who can provide leadership, manage technical challenges, and oversee operational efficiency.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Shiftboss Mining will oversee a range of day-to-day duties that ensure mining operations meet set performance indicators, including:

    1. Leadership and Team Management:
      • Provide coaching and guidance to create high-performance teams.
      • Ensure employees adhere to safety standards and standard operating procedures.
      • Offer on-the-job training, coaching, and career development opportunities for team members.
    2. Operational Oversight:
      • Execute operational projects and ensure compliance with SOPs and operational standards.
      • Manage equipment availability and adherence to overhaul/maintenance programs.
      • Ensure efficient planning, organizing, and control of departmental activities.
    3. Problem-Solving and Root Cause Analysis:
      • Provide first-line technical solutions to address issues within the mining department.
      • Analyze failure trends and implement strategies to eliminate root causes.
    4. Cost and Performance Control:
      • Ensure that mining production volumes are achieved within the allocated budget.
      • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost per ton (R/t), tons per continuous miner (t/cm/shift), and adherence to production targets.
      • Monitor cost-effective solutions and equipment optimization to meet mining goals.
    5. Safety and Compliance:
      • Maintain best-in-class safety performance and ensure continuous improvement of key safety metrics.
      • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and mining laws to promote a “Zero Harm” culture.
    6. Governance and SOP Compliance:
      • Ensure adherence to Sasol’s operating principles, safety standards, and governance bodies.
      • Oversee electronic timekeeping and ensure compliance with company protocols.

    Key Performance Indicators:

    • Production Targets: Ensure tonnage per shift and equipment availability.
    • Maintenance and Downtime: Track adherence to maintenance schedules and downtime.
    • Safety Metrics: Achieve zero fatalities and maintain low Lost Workday Case Rates (LWDCR).
    • Cost Control: Ensure production volumes are met within budget.
    • Training and Development: Provide training and support for team growth.

    Educational and Experience Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Education: High School Diploma (Grade 12 equivalent).
    • Added Qualification: Mine Overseer Certificate (advantageous).

    Certifications:

    • C_Blasting Certificate (Underground) is mandatory for this role.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in mining operations or a related field.
