Job Overview
Eskom is seeking a qualified Engineering Assistant – High Voltage Plant Management to join the Southern Grid High Voltage Plant Department in Bloemfontein.
This role focuses on supporting the maintenance, inspection, and operation of high voltage plant equipment within the electricity grid. The successful candidate will help ensure that all high voltage systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant safety and operational standards.
The position is suitable for candidates with electrical trade qualifications who want to grow their careers within South Africa’s power and energy sector.
Job Description
The Engineering Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the maintenance and operational support of high voltage plant and related equipment within the grid infrastructure.
Key duties include providing operating services to high voltage plant equipment, executing routine and preventative maintenance, and performing detailed inspections to ensure equipment reliability and safety. The role also requires monitoring plant conditions and non-outage activities to ensure smooth system operations.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, including the Operating Regulations for High Voltage Systems (ORHVS) and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining proper documentation and configuration records, coordinating worksite activities, and providing mentoring and coaching to team members where necessary. Strong teamwork, communication, and organisational skills are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities

Provide operational services to high voltage (HV) plant equipment.

Execute routine and planned maintenance activities on HV plant and associated equipment.

Perform regular inspections to ensure equipment reliability and safety.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum Qualification

Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Light Current or Heavy Current) at NQF Level 4 with 120 credits.
Minimum Experience

At least 2 years of electrical experience in a related field.
