Job Overview
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital is the accounting and administrative head of the institution, responsible for providing strategic leadership and executive management of all hospital operations. The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred healthcare services while maintaining strong corporate and clinical governance, financial sustainability, and compliance with national and provincial healthcare legislation.
The CEO plays a pivotal role in aligning hospital operations with the strategic objectives of the Free State Department of Health and contributing to provincial health policy and service delivery improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Planning

Provide strategic direction and leadership for the hospital.

Develop and implement the hospital Business Plan in alignment with the departmental strategic plan.

Contribute to provincial policy and strategic development relating to healthcare service delivery.
Clinical Governance & Patient Care
-
Oversee all aspects of patient care to ensure safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Ensure compliance with healthcare standards and service quality requirements.

Promote a culture of excellence, patient-centred care, and ethical clinical practice.
Corporate Governance & Compliance
-
Ensure sound corporate governance and compliance with financial policies, legislation, and regulations.

Ensure adherence to relevant legislation, including the National Health Act, PFMA, Public Service Act, and related policies.

Strengthen accountability, risk management, and internal control systems.
Financial & Resource Management
-
Oversee and manage human, financial, and physical resources of the hospital.

Ensure effective financial management and optimal use of budgets and assets.
-
Promote operational efficiency and sustainability.
Stakeholder Engagement & Representation
-
Serve on internal and external committees and represent the hospital in relevant forums.
-
Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, partners, and oversight bodies.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
-
Qualification at NQF Level 7 recognised by SAQA.
-
Postgraduate degree in Health Management or a related health profession.
-
SMS Pre-Entry Certificate (Nyukela) required prior to appointment (or proof of registration).
Experience
-
Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a senior managerial level within a healthcare environment.
-
Proven track record in managing complex health service operations.
Inherent Job Requirements
