Job Overview
The University of the Free State is seeking a Lecturer: Teacher Education to join the Department of Curriculum Studies and Higher Education. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, curriculum development, student supervision, Work Integrated Learning and faculty administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education.
- Participate in the Faculty’s Work Integrated Learning programme and Teaching Practice.
- Conduct research and produce research outputs for accredited journals and other relevant platforms.
- Contribute to curriculum development in Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students and provide consultation sessions.
- Collaborate with colleagues within the Faculty.
- Participate in leadership and administrative responsibilities within the Faculty.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Doctoral degree (NQF Level 10) in Education, focusing on Teacher Education (Pre-service or In-service Teachers) or a related discipline for permanent appointment; OR
- Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) in Education with a focus on Teacher Education for a five-year contract appointment, during which a doctoral degree must be obtained for conversion to permanent appointment.
- Proof of registration for a doctoral degree in Education with a Teacher Education focus.
- An abstract of the thesis/dissertation demonstrating relevance to Teacher Education.
- A formal teaching qualification with Intermediate Phase Teaching or Primary School Teaching as a major, such as a Diploma in Education, BEd or equivalent.
- At least five years’ relevant school-based work experience, or at least two years’ experience in higher education or research and development.
- Proven experience presenting posters or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
- Evidence of manuscripts that have potential for submission or conversion into publications in accredited journals.
- A good academic record.
Recommended Experience
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- A proven research record and relevant publications in accredited national journals.
- Membership of a national or international scholarly society or committee.
- Experience in school-based community engagement.
- School leadership experience, such as Subject Head, Head of Department, Cluster Leader or Deputy Principal.
