HR Assistant – Grain Field Chickens (VKB Group)
Job Overview
The HR Assistant is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the Human Resources function at Grain Field Chickens, a subsidiary of VKB Group, based in Reitz, Free State. The role supports the effective delivery of Human Capital services within a high-volume manufacturing/abattoir environment, ensuring compliance with company policies, labor legislation, and standard operating procedures.
The incumbent will be actively involved in recruitment, training and skills development, time and attendance administration, employee records management, payroll support, disability/incapacity/death claims administration, and general HR operations. The position requires a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to work closely with employees, line managers, and external stakeholders.
Key Purpose of the Role
To ensure the smooth, accurate, and timely execution of HR administrative processes, enabling operational departments to function efficiently while supporting employee wellbeing, compliance, and development.
Key Responsibilities Summary
Human Resources Administration

Maintain accurate employee records (electronic and hard copy)

Administer employment contracts, letters, job descriptions, and HR documentation

Support payroll by managing employee data changes and benefit administration

Handle UI-19s, salary schedules, and maternity/termination documentation

Respond to HR-related queries and escalate issues where required
Recruitment & Onboarding

Advertise vacancies and shortlist candidates

Coordinate interviews, background checks, and feedback
-
Manage onboarding, inductions, access control, and time & attendance setup
-
Arrange temporary and casual workforce administration
Training & Skills Development
-
Coordinate learnerships, apprenticeships, graduate and skills programmes

Organise training sessions, registers, reports, and logistics
-
Assist with Workplace Skills Plan (WSP), Annual Training Report (ATR),
Employment Equity (EE) submissions, and BBBEE-related reporting
Time & Attendance & Data Management

Ensure accurate capturing and management of time and attendance data

Work with electronic registers and HR systems (Sage People, PRP)

Compile HR data reports and analysis as required
Disability, Incapacity & Death Claims

Administer disability and incapacity processes and committee meetings

Liaise with Hollard, Head Office, medical practitioners, and families

Ensure deadlines, documentation, and claims processes are fully complied with
