    Job Description

    The Lecturer will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching and supporting the academic development of students within the Social Work programme.

    Responsibilities include coordinating field education activities, facilitating field instruction modules, and supporting students during their practical training placements. The lecturer will also participate in departmental research programmes and contribute to postgraduate supervision.

    The role requires active involvement in academic research, scholarly activities, and collaboration with colleagues to support the department’s academic and research objectives.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Coordinate Field Education activities for the Social Work programme.

    • Contribute to the successful delivery of the Bachelor of Social Work programme.

    • Teach Field Instruction modules.

    • Participate actively in departmental research programmes.

    • Provide postgraduate supervision where applicable.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Master’s degree in Social Work or a closely related discipline at NQF Level 9.

    • Appointment may be on a 5-year contract, during which a PhD in Social Work or a related field (NQF Level 10) must be obtained for conversion to a permanent position.

    • Evidence of conference presentations (poster or oral).

    • Evidence of research manuscripts with potential for publication in accredited journals.

    • A good academic record (copy must be attached).

    Recommended Requirements

    • Three years’ relevant experience in Social Work Field Instruction Education.

    • Knowledge of student placements and the social welfare sector in the Free State.

    • Proven research publications in nationally accredited journals.

    • Registration with the SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions).

    • Membership in a national or international scholarly society or committee.
