     Job Purpose

    To manage the Fruit & Veg department by:

    • Maximising sales (turnover)
    • Minimising stock losses and waste
    • Ensuring high standards in merchandising, hygiene, and customer service
    • Leading and managing staff effectively

     Minimum Requirements

    • Grade 12 (Matric)
    • 2–4 years experience in a Fruit & Veg / Produce environment
    • 1–2 years experience managing a team or department
    • Proven leadership and staff management experience

     Key Responsibilities

     Merchandising & Stock Control

    • Ensure shelves are stocked, fresh, and visually appealing
    • Conduct regular quality checks on produce
    • Follow stock rotation procedures (FIFO)
    • Ensure correct pricing and product labelling (SEL)
    • Monitor promotions and product availability
    • Minimise waste and shrinkage

     Food Safety & Hygiene

    • Maintain hygiene and housekeeping standards
    • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations
    • Implement and monitor cleaning schedules
    • Complete daily food safety checklists

     Staff Management

    • Supervise and support staff
    • Set targets and delegate tasks
    • Train and coach employees
    • Handle performance issues and non-compliance
    • Manage staff schedules (Kronos system)

     Customer Service

    • Assist customers with queries
    • Handle out-of-stock situations professionally
    • Ensure department is clean, organised, and customer-ready

     Administration & Systems

    • Monitor sales, waste, and department performance
    • Use systems like SAP for:
      • Stock control
      • Waste processing
      • Transfers
    • Generate and analyse reports
    • Ensure equipment is maintained and functional

     Working Environment

    • Fast-paced retail setting
    • Requires standing for long hours
    • Involves working with fresh food products
    • May include weekend and shift work
